« Keep Those Logs. But Keep Them Right... | Main | Innovation Stems SOX Costs »
As I mentioned here, I plan to start publishing the LogLogic Logging Glossary. So, here is the second term (first):
Structured logging intended to capture detailed event and activity information in a form suitable for analysis and reporting.
Audit logging is often inserted into a product rather than integrated or developed with the product. The product may have ‘hooks’ that enable auditing. This 'external' monitoring can have differences in semantics and data associations than found for the same event recorded through normal logging. It's logging methods, management, and log construction can be closely tied to performance and the tools used to report and analyze the logs.
See System Audit Logging and User Audit Logging.
